Blood bank closure does not appear to have been prudent

Posted: Tuesday, January 26, 2010

The management of the Blood Bank of Alaska has decided to close our Kenai Peninsula branch. The last day of operation was Jan. 16.

At the same time, they are advertising on TV that there are critical blood shortages in the state. They say they are currently at code "red" which is less than a one-day supply of blood state-wide.

Meanwhile, three dedicated employees have lost their jobs and blood donors on the peninsula are apparently being told that their donations are no longer needed.
