Kenai resident Brian James Brown died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at his home in Kenai. He was 52.

Mr. Brown was born Oct. 13, 1958, to John Sheldon and Joann Mae (Rikhus) Brown in Palo Alto, Calif. He graduated from Irondale High School in New Brighton, Minn. After graduation he joined the Navy in 1976 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1978. Mr. Brown furthered his education by attending Vermillion Community College in Ely, where he received an environmental science degree. He owned and operated his own business in Minnesota called Eagle Mountain Enterprises, where he peeled and chinked log cabins. In the spring of 2004, Brian moved to Kenai.
The family wrote, "Brian was always adventurous and loved being in the outdoors and fishing. He also enjoyed combing the beach for agates. One of his favorite hobbies was tending to his bee hives. He was the most positive person anyone could meet. He would do anything he could for his friends and family. Brian was kindhearted and thoughtful to everyone he met and was always there to lend a helping hand. He was a loving son, a great brother, a fun uncle, and a very proud father. Brian struggled with severe asthma but remained positive and never burdened anyone with complaints. He will be especially missed by his beloved cat, Ringo. How very beautiful and amazing that Brian still remained true to his kindness and believed there was goodness in everyone. He had hope and wished to live in a better world. He wished this for everyone. Brian was an Angel and is now among Angels. He will be heart-wrenchingly missed by the people who loved him and longed for him to find peace. He brought laughter and sunshine into our lives and we are all blessed to have known him. If we can all learn just one thing from Brian, it's to remember that thorns also have roses and there is beauty in everything. Rest in Peace, sweet brother."
He was preceded in death by his father, John S. Brown.
He is survived by his son, Zachary Brown, of Duluth, Minn; mother, Joann Brown, of Billings, Mont.; brother, Scott Brown and his wife, Sandra, of Davis, Calif.; and sisters, Laufey Owen, of Clayton, Calif., Shelley Workman, of New Harbor, Maine, Deedee Jussila and her husband, Jim, of Billings, Mont.
