Alaska resident Brandon L. Sparks died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, of natural causes at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage. He was 27.
A Celebration of Life and memorial potluck will be held Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, from 6 -- 8 p.m. at Tyotkas Elder Center, 1000 Mission Ave., in old-town Kenai.
Mr. Sparks was born May 15, 1983, to Donn and Tonia (Donahoe) Sparks, in Grand Rapids, Mich. Brandon attended Ravenna High School in Michigan, then moved to Alaska in 2006 and worked various labor jobs. Brandon loved basketball, football, golf, fishing, camping, hiking and splitting wood for his mom.
The family wrote: "Brandon loved and worried most about his grandmother in Michigan and planned to take his family to meet her this summer. We all hold him close to our hearts and embrace the love the he has given us. He will always live on and be with us through his daughter Savannah. Thank you Son for the time we shared and for just being yourself, Love Mom."
Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his grandfather, Patrick Donahoe, of Conklin, Mich.
He is survived by his daughter Savanna Sparks, and her mother, Sasha Jackson, of Kenai; grandmother Donna Donahoe of, Conklin, Mich.; mother, Tonia Sparks, of Soldotna; father, Donn Sparks, of Louisville, Ky.; brothers Travis Sparks, and nephew, Levi, of Sparta, Mich.; and Ryan Sparks, of Grand Rapids, Mich,; sister, Amber Sparks, and nephew, Daniel, of Hemet Calif.; sister, LeeAndra Verduin, of Kent City, Mich.; aunt Janice and uncle Don Donahoe, of Conklin, Mich.; aunt Kim and uncle Brian Newton, of Virgini.; and cousins Gavin, Griffin, and Hunter Donahoe, of Conklin, Mich.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
