Michelle Odom Maheras

Soldotna resident Michelle Odom Maheras died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at her home. She was 42.

Memorial services will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Pizza Paradisos Restaurant in Kenai.

Mrs. Maheras was born Jan. 13, 1963, to Allen and Joanne Odom in Soldotna. She graduated from Kenai Central High School in 1980 and attended the University of Hawaii. Returning from college, she settled in Soldotna, where she met and married Thanos Maheras. After living in Kenai, Anchorage, Seward and Dutch Harbor at various times through the years, they returned to Soldotna, where they made their home.

Mrs. Maheras had one child, Tony, now 8 years old. She worked at Central Peninsula General Hospital in dietary services and also at Paradisos a few evenings a week.

Mrs. Maheras enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She loved to run her dog, Chief, and go for long walks with friends. She enjoyed reading and working and was a tissue donor.

"Michelle had the kindest heart of any person we knew, she always touched the lives of those she met and was a generous and thoughtful daughter, sister, friend, wife and mother. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone or anything and encouraged us to always try to see another person's perspective and not judge them harshly. She was the best person we've ever known, and she will be missed dearly. We can't imagine the world without her in it," her family said.

"If everyone was like Michelle, the world would be a different place," her husband said.

Mrs. Maheras was preceded in death by her uncle, Jesse Robinson.

She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Thanos Maheras; son, Antonio Maheras; mother and father, Joanne and Allen Odom; sisters, Lisa Odom and Theresa Zabala; brothers-in-law, Michael Cathey, George Pitsilionis and Ken Zabala; nephews, Rylan Zabala and Niki Pitsilionis; nieces, Asia Zabala and Yanna Pitsilionis; sister-in-law, Katina Pitsilionis; many extended family members in Alaska, Greece and the Lower 48; the Robinson family in Sterling; and many friends, including Monique, Cheryl, Denise, Janeice, Abbie, Keri and Nena.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maheras family at First National Bank, account No. 30443311.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
