The Hutchison hockey team notched 4-1 and 8-2 Greatland Hockey Conference victories on Friday and Saturday at Jason Peterson Memorial Ice Rink in Nikiski.
Early deficits again hurt the Bulldogs, who have a thin bench. Friday, the Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 after the first period. In the second period, it was 3-0 when Matt Thompson found the back of the net on assists by Matt Hanley and Jordan Harrison.
Saturday, Nikiski again fell behind 2-0 after the first period. Hutchison stretched the lead to 4-0 after two periods. In the third period, Thompson, a freshman, finished off a solid weekend with two more goals. The assists on his second goal went to Zach Alkire and Matt Hanley.
"It'd be nice to have 10 or 12 players, because then we could do a lot of different things," Nikiski coach Irv Smith said. "Again, the kids gave good effort. I can't fault them anywhere for not trying hard enough."
