Chambers set schedules

Kenai chamber announces award winners

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce announced its annual Kenai's Community Awards, which recognized the top individuals, businesses and organizations in the Kenai community for year 2010. Recipients were honored at an awards ceremony Saturday, Jan. 22.

The awards presented were as follows:

Business/Organization of the Year: Friends of the Kenai Library.

Small Business of the Year: David Schilling and the Uptown Motel, Louie's Steak and Seafood and the Backdoor Sportsbar.

Community Service: Tim Navarre.

Volunteer of the Year: Jodi Stuart.

Service to Youth Award: Gary Toombs and Coca Cola of Kenai.

Presidents Award: Brendyn Shiflea.

Pioneer Award: Dale and Barb Sandahl.

Log Cabin Award: Roy Wells.

Energy audit application period open

Applications for the state's commercial energy audit program are being accepted until Feb. 15

Through the program, which is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and administered by the Alaska Energy Authority, owners of some commercial buildings can be reimbursed up to $6,500 for an energy audit that provides information on how to make the building more energy efficient and the cost of doing so.

Up to 150 buildings will be able to participate in the program. Commercial buildings, including those owned by non-profits, up to 125,00 square feet are eligible for the program. Owners will be reimbursed for the cost of their audit up to a certain amount per square foot.

Sport, Rec and Trade show gearing up

The Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors has purchased the Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show from Peninsula Marketing. The Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors along with sponsors The KSRM Radio Group and The Peninsula Clarion invite you to mark the 26th Annual Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show on your calendars: Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8. Soldotna Chamber's Glaves completes leadership training

Michelle Glaves executive director of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, has received the designation of IOM (Institute for Organization Management) from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This professional development program of the U.S. Chamber is a comprehensive course of study consisting of four annual sessions focusing on professional growth and development for association, chamber and other nonprofit professionals.

Graduates of Institute receive the IOM recognition, signifying completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management. In addition, participants can earn points toward the Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) or Certified Association Executive (CAE) certifications. Nearly 1,000 individuals attend Institute annually.

Institute is a 501(c) (3) affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is the premier nonprofit professional development program for nonprofit professionals, fostering individual growth through interactive learning and networking opportunities.
