The Kenai Birding Festival Winter Workshop is next week, Feb. 4 and 5. Participants will learn all about winter birding and wildlife watching on the Kenai. New and experienced birders are welcome. The Central Peninsula Garden Club hosts a seminar on high tunnels and the USDA cost-share program on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on K-Beach Road, near the Bridge Access intersection. The Central Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board of Directors meeting will be held on Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Redoubt/Spurr conference room at Central Peninsula General Hospital.
The Alaska Public Offices Commission is having a series of workshops on their regulations. Each will begin with an explanation of the changes in the proposed regulations followed by time for questions from attendees. The workshops will be held by teleconference in Juneau, but people can participate from other locations. Learn the art and science behind candlemaking at workshop on Feb. 5 at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska. This four-hour workshop will teach students 12 and older how to make three different types of candles, from start to finish. All materials are provided. Attendees will take home several finished products as well as a comprehensive information packet. Pre-registration is required as there is limited space. The cost is $75. The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska is hosting a spring-break aviation camp, Challengers ACE Academy, for students in grades 8-11. The camp will have an orientation flight for all attendees, and include hands-on experience with Medallion flight simulator, wing design, forces of flight, weather and other aviation topics. CLCA is an approved vendor for Connections and IDEA. This camp will also satisfy many of the requirements for aviation related badges for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. ACE runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and costs $275. Participants should bring their own lunch each day. The Challenger center is located at 9711 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai.
