Langston, Webb plan spring marriage Joy Langston and Steven Webb will be married at Holy Trinity Church on Mercer Island in Washington on April 29.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Gordon Langston of Nikiski. She graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage and is an office manager at Cogenix in Redmond, Wash.

The future groom is the son of Mary Furer of Mercer Island, and Thomas Webb of Seattle. He is a University of Washington graduate and employed as a software developer at Solutions IQ in Bellevue, Wash.

Kenai couple celebrates 50 years together

David and Mary Thornton of Kenai recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

The Thorntons were married Jan. 19, 1951, in Coleman, Texas.

The couple met while working in Coleman on a seismograph crew in June 1950. They were married by Dan Foggarty, minister at the Church of Christ, and had Louis Felty, R.L. and Bonnie Rankin as their witnesses.

The two were married for 29 days when David was drafted into the Army for the Korean conflict.

After living in Texas and New Mexico for several years, the Thorntons fulfilled a dream to move to Alaska in 1963.

David worked as a carpenter, oil field worker, preacher, Bible teacher and is now the owner of the the Brown Bear Gun Shop and Museum in Kenai.

Mary has worked as a bookkeeper for many businesses, including Mukluk Freight Lines, Kenai Air, SouthCentral Air and Better Concrete Producers. She now has her own accounting business in their home.

The couple has three children and seven grandchildren. Daughter Teresa and her husband, Bill Elmore, live in Tok and have four sons who live throughout the United States. Daughter Candace Berman lives in Phoenix with her two daughters. Their son, David, lives in Kenai with one daughter.
