ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Alaska Travel Industry Association on Monday launched an advertising campaign to promote travel within the state.

The ads are meant to help deflect what is expected to be a downturn in tourists to Alaska this summer. The new spots will run through the end of March.

The association said bookings this summer are down by as much as 46 percent. If the trend continues, it will force layoffs in the tourism business this summer, the association said.
