FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The state Department of Transportation has blocked off access to the ice road over the Chena River on the west side of Fairbanks, due to overflow.
State transportation officials said 6 to 8 inches of water was on top of the ice road, which crosses the river at the Princess Hotel.
The road is typically open until sometime in March, but Fairbanks has seen one of its warmest winters on record. As a result, the road opened late and closed early.
