Evelyn M. Jorgenson Curran, of Danvers, Mass., died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Mass., after a brief illness. She was 89.
Born in West Townsend, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Katherina B. (Shaw) Jones. Mrs. Curran moved to Portsmouth, N.H., as a young girl, and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1930. She attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing in Boston in 1936.
Mrs. Curran was employed as an industrial nurse at the ITEK Corp. facilities until she retired in 1970. She lived in Lynnfield, Mass., until moving to Alaska in 1978, and she moved back to Danvers in 2001.
She was a member of the Community Covenant Church, and the Lynnfield Community Church, where she was past president of the Women's Circle.
Mrs. Curran was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Arthur M. Jorgenson; Phillip J. Curran, her husband of six years; sister, Perley Jones; and brother, Robert L. Jones.
Mrs. Curran is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur M. and Virginia L. Jorgenson Jr. of West Peabody, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Astrid and David Chambers of Kenai; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Gillquist of Eagle River, Adam M. Jorgenson of West Peabody, Amy R. Cassidy of West Peabody, Christopher S. Johnson of Anchorage and Ron D. Chambers of Palmer; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at the Community Covenant Church in West Peabody on Sunday, Jan. 26 with the Rev. Joel Andrelee officiating.
Arrangements were made by Parker Funeral Home in Massachusetts.
