First-graders finished their machines unit by editing their books. They will share these with parents at conferences. The students also set writing goals for their next unit, which will be on transportation. They had a visit from safety nurse Fellman on Thursday. She discussed with the students safe and unsafe things to do while playing. On Friday, students drew an armadillo and hedgehog during art. This will prepare the students for an author unit on Jan Brett next week. Friday centers will focus on her various books.
Mrs. Carter's class went ice fishing Jan. 21. The students had a blast and caught fish.
The sixth-graders are visiting the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska to participate in "Rendezvous with a Comet" missions. Mrs. DuFloth's class went Tuesday; Mrs. Murphy's class is there today; and Mrs. Carter's class will go Thursday. The classes also will enjoy the "School Bus To Space," sponsored by Conoco Phillips, with five full days of space science experiments and activities.
