Kenai, Homer split

The Kenai Central and Homer basketball teams split a pair of Northern Lights Confernce games on Saturday in Homer.

The girls dropped a 41-32 decision. Kenai fell behind early and was never able to catch up.

"We got off to a slow start," Kenai girls coach Ken Felchle said. "We spotted them 10 points. You just can't do that."

Reba Temple had 10 points for Homer, while Lindsay Layland added nine and Piper Daugharty also had nine. For Kenai, Kyla Steward had 10 and Lacie Wortham chipped in nine.

In the boys game, Kenai took a 25-10 lead after one quarter and cruised. Nathan Byrd had 17 points, while Daniel Gustkey had 16, Cory Toombs had 12, Zach Rabung had 11 and Nate Saltzgiver had 10. For Homer, Colten Tutt dumped in 12.
