New reasons to get fit

The Nikiski Pool Exercise Room has three new pieces of exercise equipment including a new treadmill, elliptical and spin bicycle each equipped with Cardio Theaters. The exercise room also includes two racquetball and wallyball courts on hard wood floors. Call to reserve a court, and walk-ins are welcome. For more information call 776-8800.

Bike spin classes available

The Nikiski Community Recreation Center is offering Bicycle Spin Classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays. January's special is two for the price of one. Please call for 776-8800 for more information and class times.

Singles meet up

A peninsula singles activity group is forming. The group will enjoy food, coffee and other adventures. The first two gatherings are scheduled for Feb. 6 and Feb. 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. Call Bobbie at 740-0832 or 260-5353 for the location and more information.

Brown Bears go pink for cancer awareness

The Kenai River Brown Bears hockey team will don special edition pink jerseys as they do battle with in-state rival, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4 and 5. The pink game-worn jerseys will be auctioned during intermissions, with the proceeds going to benefit the Central Peninsula Health Foundation and local cancer patients on the Kenai Peninsula. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.

Kachemak Ski for Women

This eigth annual event will be held Feb. 6 in Homer at the Lookout Mountain Trails on Ohlson Mountain Road. Registration begins at noon, and the event start at 1 pm. Participants are asked for a $15 donation to benefit Haven House. There will be prizes for costumes. Call Kris at 399-4413 for more information.

Heart and Soul sculpture submissions solicited

The Kenai River Council on the Arts is accepting entries from metal and wood artists to exhibit in the February sculpture exhibit, "Heart and Soul," at the Kenai Fine Arts Center. Artists may submit up to three pieces. Entries are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 28. Call 283-7040 or visit for more information.

Parent advisory teleconference set
