ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The new secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will apparently be the first member of President George Bush's cabinet to visit Alaska.
Sen. Frank Murkowski, R-Alaska, said he has invited Secretary Anthony Principi to the state for tours of veterans and military facilities Feb. 16-18. Principi also will speak at a military appreciation dinner in Anchorage.
Principi was staff director for the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee in 1985-86. Murkowski chaired the panel those years and he remains a member of the committee.
