ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Dogs are falling victim to traps around the Matanuska and Susitna valleys.
Dog owners reported three cases of dogs caught in traps last month.
One dog lost its foot in a trap set on private land on the outskirts of Palmer, the state Department of Fish and Game said.
A second dog was killed in a trap set at the State Plant Material Center near Bodenburg Butte, while a third dog was reported caught in a trap along a dog mushing trail north of Wasilla, officials said.
The trappers' sets were ill-advised because of their proximity to homes, state officials said.
None of the traps carried any identification about their owners.
