Peer counselors to lead mothers group

The Kenai WIC office in the Seaman Building in Kenai will host a Mothers Group today at 3 p.m. This group is for pregnant mothers who would like to meet other mothers in the community and discuss parenting issues. The group has a strong breast-feeding emphasis. For more information, call 283-4707.

Community chorus to meet

The Soldotna Community Chorus is looking for members. The chorus meets Tuesdays in the Soldotna Middle School music room. The children's chorus meets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with adults meeting from 8 to 9 p.m. No experience is necessary, and beginners are welcome. For more information, call 262-6768.

Shellfish permits due

The 2000 personal-use, sport-fishing shellfish permits are due back to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game by Wednesday. They should be returned even if you did not go clamming or crabbing. They may be dropped off at the Fish and Game office on Kalifornsky Beach Road or mailed to 333 Raspberry Road, Anchorage, AK 99518.

Beer tasting tops fund-raiser

The Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club will sponsor A Taste of Art, a beer tasting, art and outdoor adventures fund-raising auction at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Tickets are $25 per person and available at River City Books or at the door. For more information, call 262-7675.

Entrants sought for contest

The Showin' Off the Kids lip sync and choreography contest, sponsored by Soldotna Community Schools, is looking for entrants from kindergarten to eighth grade. The deadline for applications is Feb. 7. The contest will be held Feb. 22. For more information, call 262-6768.

Kids arts on display

The annual Kids Art Show is on display at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Old Town Kenai through Feb. 10. Teacher Dottie Sanders will provide a workshop for young artists at 2 p.m. that day.

The arts center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Community to gather of Valentines Day

The Ninilchik community will have a Heart to Heart gathering Feb. 14 at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds. The gathering will give residents an opportunity to honor someone who has made a difference in their life. A potluck will be served at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to bring their own plates and eating utensils with a favorite dish.
