Tour of Anchorage set for March 7

The Tour of Anchorage, a ski marathon, will take place in Anchorage on March 7.

The ski marathon consists of four point-to-point cross-country ski races: a 25-kilometer classical race and 25-kilometer, 40-kilometer and 50-kilometer freestyle races.

The course starts at various locations across Anchorage and follows groomed trails through woods, downtown and along the coast, with participants finishing at Kincaid Park.

In 2002, more than 1,800 skiers participated, making the tour the second largest ski event in the nation. The race was canceled due to lack of snow last year.

Entry fees range from $40 to $70, with discounts available to those who register on the Internet or those who are members of the Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage.

The best way to find out more information and to register is by visiting www.tourofanchorage.com. More information also can be gathered by calling 907-276-7609.
