Hayes joins Air Force
Former Soldotna resident Air Force Airman Mark A. Hayes graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, Hayes earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Betty Kuntz and grandson of Allen Avenger of Delta Junction.
Students named to dean’s list
· Soldotna resident Brittany Howard was named to the dean’s list at Virginia Bluefield College. To be named to the list students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5.
· Soldotna resident Keaton Andrus was named to the dean’s list at the University of Indianapolis. To be named to the list students must have completed at least 12 credit hours during a regular semester and must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.4.
His parents are Michael and Marquitta Andrus.
Painter serves in Iraq
Former Ninilchik resident Army Pvt. James M. Painter has returned to the 35th Armor Regiment in Baumholder, Germany, after being deployed to an overseas forward-operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. Armed Forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq.
Painter is an armor crewman with one year of military service.
He is the son of Mike Painter.
Swain joins Army
Former Sterling resident Army Pvt. Dustin G. Swain graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
He is the son of Threasa Thomas.
Peck graduates dental training
Former Kenai resident Justin S. Peck graduated from Navy Dental Strand training school Friday.
Peck is a 2006 graduate of Kenai Central High School. He joined the Navy on June 27, and graduated from basic training Aug. 25 in Great Lakes, Ill. Peck graduated corpsman training school Dec. 1.
He is is stationed in Everett, Wash., at a dental training facility and works as a dental technician.
Peck is the son of Randy and June Peck.
