Wrestling registration begins

Registration for the Nikiski Freestyle Wrestling Club will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today or 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nikiski North Star Elementary School. Youth ages 5 and older are eligible to participate. The cost including insurance is $60 per wrestler.

Parents are required to bring a copy of their child's birth certificate that will be kept on file with the club. A copier will not be available at registration.

Reading carnival slated

The Kenai Peninsula Reading Council will hold its annual reading carnival to celebrate and promote literacy on the peninsula from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Soldotna High School.

Groups wishing to have a booth that promotes literacy, offers information or a service to families, or serves as a fundraiser for organizations may call, Monica at 283-5015 or e-mail her mheath@kpbsd.k12.sk.us.

Car seat checkup slated

There will be a free car seat check up event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Central Emergency Services. For more information, call 714-4539.

Potatoes to be discussed

Central Peninsula Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road near the Bridge Access Road intersection.

Jeff Smeenk, University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension specialist in commercial horticulture will be the featured speaker. His topic, "Potatoes and More Potatoes," will include information from his research and survey work on potatoes, soil quality enhancement and non-herbicide methods of week control in potato growing. There will be 15 varieties of potatoes for taste testing.

Title VII meeting slated

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Federal Programs Department has scheduled a Title VII, Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee meeting from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in room 3 at the Soldotna Sports Center. Presidential caucus set

District 33 and 34 Democrats will meet for the District Democratic Presidential Caucus on at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Democrats will have the opportunity to participate in a fan-out vote for their favorite presidential candidate. Voter registration will be available. Delegates to the state convention also will be elected. For more information, call Sharon at 262-6298.

KPBSD to hold federal programs meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will hold a Federal Programs Advisory Committee meeting from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center in Homer. It is open to the public. For more information or to register call, Rochelle at 714-8892.

FCS board meeting planned

Frontier Community Services will hold a board of director's meeting from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Soldotna Sports Center. Election of officers will be held and agency director's will report on the status of individual programs. For more information, call Kathy Kenner at 262-6331.

Soccer registration continues

The Boys and Girls Club is holding indoor soccer registration through Feb. 8. For youth ages 4 through fifth grade.

Cost is $50 plus a Boys and Girls Club membership fee of $20. Registration is being taken at the Kenai Rec Center, online at postiveplaceforkids.com or by phone at 283-3318.
