I am a Registered Nurse, working at CPH, who spoke publicly at the Borough Assembly meeting about a patient safety concern I have that is supported by the Center for Disease Control. As a result, I was told not to come to work the next day. Is it too late for CPH? Can we stop pretending to be a for-profit corporation and start anew as a non-profit community hospital once again? For at a corporation, a nurse would be reprimanded for being a patient advocate for it might lead to a decrease in revenue. But at a hospital, a nurse is supported and encouraged to be a patient advocate, because it just might save a life.
