Winter ball canceled

The Peninsula Artists in Motion Annual Winter Ball, scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.

Monopoly tournament Saturday

The annual youth Monopoly tournament for the Peninsula Winter Games will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center conference rooms. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

Youth ages 8 to 18 years old are eligible to play. Prizes will be awarded.

Head start fundraiser slated

Sterling Head Start, in cooperation with the Sterling Community Club, will hold a 50s Sock Hop. It will include a ribs and chicken dinner, a variety show, and auction at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Sterling Senior Center. Chef Michael Even will prepare the meal and the Skyview High School volleyball team will serve.

Tickets are available for $25 each at Sterling Head Start, CBC Rentals, Alaska Wedding Brokers and Sedona Florist.

Habitat extends application deadline

The Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity has extended its application deadline to Sunday.

Pool schedules announced

Area pools hours are:

* Kenai Central High School -- 6:30 to 8 a.m. morning lap swim -- Monday through Friday; 9 to 11 a.m. physical therapy -- Mondays; 3 to 5 p.m. Piranaha Swim Team -- Monday through Thursday; 5 to 6 p.m. swim lessons -- Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. water aerobics -- Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 6 to 7 p.m. evening lap swim -- Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The cost is $4 Lap swim or Open swim, $35 for a punch card/ 10 punches on the card.

* Skyview High School -- Lap swim/water aerobics, Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.; and open/lap swim Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; Water Aerobics/Independent physical therapy Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; lap swim Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; and organized lap swim workout from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Swim lessons begin Feb. 9. Pre-registration is recommended.

Indoor soccer offered

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Kenai Peninsula is taking registrations for indoor soccer. The event is open to youth ages 4 years old (by Feb. 5) through fifth grade. Deadline to register is 4 p.m. Feb. 5.

The deadline is firm and late registration will be done on a space available basis. Registration is done at the Kenai Rec Center. Cost is $60 and must be a current 2010 member. Practices start the week of March 22. Call the athletic department at 283-3318 for more information.
