Winter games topic at today's chamber luncheon

Faron Owen, executive director of the Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council, will be the guest speaker at today's weekly luncheon meeting of the Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce.

Owen will give an update on the Peninsula Winter Games.

WRCC board to meet Wednesday

The board of directors of the Kenai-Soldotna Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Women's Resource and Crisis Center.

Oil-gas official to speak at Kenai chamber

Judy Brady, executive director of the Alaska Oil and Gas Association, will be the guest speaker at this week's luncheon meeting of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce. Brady will speak about the statewide economic impact of the oil and gas industry.

The meeting begins at noon Wednesday at the Old Town Village Restaurant. The public is invited.

Timber industry focus of Anchor Point meeting

Bernie Brown, chief financial officer for Gates Construction Inc., will be the guest speaker at this week's Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce meeting. Brown will speak about the impact the timber industry has on the economy of the area, current timber markets and the future outlook of the industry on the Kenai Peninsula.

The meeting begins at noon Wednesday at the Anchor River Inn. The public is invited.

Red Cross training set for Saturday

The American Red Cross is training volunteers to help in their communities during times of disaster. The course "Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance" will be taught from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Kenai.

Jack Cervantes, Alaska's statewide disaster specialist, will teach the course.

Participants encouraged to attend will be Red Cross volunteers and representatives of other community agencies who may be interviewers for disaster relief operations on local or national Red Cross assignments.

Those participating must have completed the Red Cross course "Introduction to Disaster Services." Participants are asked to call 262-4541 for details on this requirement.

To register for Saturday's class, call Joy at 283-7672.

Word, Excel classes offered Saturday

Introduction to Word and Excel classes are being offered through the Small Business Development Center from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Cost is $60 for each class or $100 for both. The classes will be held at the Frontier VoTech at the Red Diamond Center.
