JUNEAU (AP) -- A bill that would regulate home inspectors passed its first committee Wednesday.
House Bill 9 would require people who inspect homes to pass an exam and register with the state. Its sponsor, Rep. Norm Rokeberg, R-Anchorage, said the bill will protect home buyers by ensuring inspectors are competent. Currently, no state agency oversees the industry.
The House Labor and Commerce Committee passed the measure Wednesday. It next goes to the Judiciary and Finance committees.
