ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Three more candidates have joined the race for Anchorage mayor.
Former Democrat candidate for governor Bruce Lemke, former Alaskan Independence lieutenant governor candidate Daniel DeNardo and political newcomer Tom Layne have filed to run for mayor.
Lemke and DeNardo both finished well behind the frontrunners in their bids for statewide office last year.
Also in the mayoral field are current Mayor George Wuerch and former mayor Rick Mystrom. Former Anchorage Assemblyman Mark Begich is considering a bid but hasn't announced his decision.
In his run for governor last year, Lemke collected less than 4 percent of the vote in losing to Fran Ulmer in the primary. He also ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1982, and for the state House and mayor of Sitka in the early 1990s.
DeNardo and his running mate, Don Wright, took less than 1 percent of the vote in November.
The municipal election is April 1.
