Efforts by Nikiski firefighters saved the Parsons Lake Road house of David Tuttle Tuesday evening, but not before fire damaged the roof and some upper-story rooms.
"It was really a good stop," Fire Chief Daniel Gregory said Wednesday of the response by 17 firefighters, one engine, three tankers and a rescue truck.
No one was injured in the fire, which was first reported at 8:20 p.m. and was out by 9:12 p.m.
Upper rooms of the multistory log home received smoke damage and damage from water-soaked insulation.
Gregory said the fire appears to have started around the chimney. Insurance investigators will seek to determine the exact cause.
