T-200 prerace banquet today

Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race organizers will hold a prerace banquet at 6 p.m. today at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Mushers will draw starting positions and meet the children they will carry for the ceremonial start. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $16.50 and available at the door. For more information, visit

Peninsula Winter Games sets schedule

The following activities will be held during the Peninsula Winter Games:

The third annual SNO-X Snowmachine Alaska statewide championship races will be Saturday at Twin Cities Raceway. For more information, call Wendy at 260-3305.

The Native Youth Olympics competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Middle School. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Laura at 283-3633.

A kids carnival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Activities will include face painting, ice your own cookie, bowling on ice, radar puck shoot, broom hockey, colored ice cube hunt, gear-up a snowman, horse sleigh rides and snowmachine rides.

A men's basketball tournament will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Recreation Center. For more information, call Jack at 262-6355.

The Alaska Championship Dog Weight Pull begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the sports center.

My Buddy and Me Dog Weight Pull contest will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the sports center. Children up to the age of 17 and any size or age of dog can enter. If the dog weighs under 40 pounds, entrants are required to provide their own harness.

A fireworks display begins at 8 p.m. at the sports center.

Cook Inlet RCAC meeting slated

The Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council's Prevention, Response, Operations and Safety Committee will meet at 10 a.m. today.

Groundhog Day fund-raiser set

The Marine Corps League Detachment No. 838 will hold a Groundhog Day fund-raiser at 4 p.m. Saturday at the VFW No. 10221 hall in Anchor Point. Fisherman's coalition to meet

The newly formed Alaska Fishermen's Coalition Inc. will meet at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building. Agenda items for discussion will encompass a membership drive, goals for the first year and finalizing the article of incorporation. All commercial fishers are encouraged to attend. "Souper Bowl" day of caring planned

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank invites the community to participate in the nationwide Souper Bowl of caring on Sunday.

Central peninsula churches will have a "soup pot" available for interested members to make a donation to the food bank. For more information, call Linda Swarner 262-3111.

Fish and Game committee to meet

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Kenai River Center. The topic of discussion will be to comment on BOG Statewide-Interior Region proposals. For more information, call Dwight Kramer at 283-1054.
