Longtime Kenai resident Mary Christine “Chris” Soares died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at home surrounded by her family, following an 18-month battle with lymphoma. She was 67.
No services will be held per her request.
Mrs. Soares was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Vian, Okla. She attended high school at Emeryville High School in Emeryville, Calif. She moved to Kenai in 1970.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Chris married her high school sweetheart at 16 and was married for 52 years. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chris will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her,” her family said.
Mrs. Soares was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Soares of Kenai; sons, Chet Soares of Kenai, Cliff Soares and wife, Sherry, of Soldotna, and Frank Soares and wife, Sherian, of Kenai; daughter, Julie Holland and husband, Michael, of Kenai; grandchildren, Billy and TJ Soares of Kenai, Ashley and Matt Purcell of Kenai, Chad Soares of Anchorage, Shane Soares of Kenai, Misty Soares of Soldotna, Desiree and John Houser of Kenai, Chris Holland of Kenai, and Mitchell and Kendall Soares of Kenai; great-grandchildren, Logan and Cameron Houser of Kenai, and Jackson Purcell of Kenai; sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Jim Hawley, and their children of Winters, Calif.; and numerous other relatives.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
