Kenai couple Spencer and Judith (Schnabel) DeVito celebrated 50 years of marriage Friday, Jan. 28.
Spence and Judy met while attending Lyons High School. They had some classes together and Spence knew right away that Judy was the one who could help him get good grades. After graduation, Spence attended Hobart College and Judy attended Brockport State Teachers College in New York. After a football head injury, Spence joined Judy at Brockport Stage Teachers College.
The DeVitos married on Jan. 28, 1961, at Saint Michael's Church, in Lyons, N.Y., shortly after graduation. They went to New York City for their honeymoon and attended a taping for "The Price Is Right," with Jack Parr. It was there that Spence won a 1961 Corvette and $1000 gas money.
Spence and Judy taught school in Phelps, N.Y., before moving and teaching in Northway, Alaska, in 1970. In 1972 the Devito family moved to the Soldotna/Kenai area where they have lived ever since.
Spence and Judy have 4 kids who all live in the Kenai/Soldotna area; Jean, Lori, Steve and Lynn. Grandchildren are Michael, Carlee, Vincent, Shaynee, Rylee, Ali and Brian, and their great grandchild is Lila.
