ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The body of a man missing since Monday near Sleetmute has been found in the Kuskokwim River.

Volunteer searchers found the body of Nickoli Peters, 38, about 150 feet down river from open water in the river.

Peters and Allen Fredericks, 37, both of Crooked Creek, had set out by snowmachine early Monday morning on their way to Sleetmute. When the men failed to return home, a family member followed their snowmachine tracks, which led to open water.

Searchers found the snowmachine in the river at about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday and spotted Peters' body three hours later.

Troopers said Peters was found in a mild current in water 8-10 feet deep.

Searchers are continuing to look for Fredericks.
