Economic impact of oil, gas discussed

Judy Brady, executive director of Alaska Oil & Gas Association, will be the guest speaker at today's Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Old Town Village Restaurant. Brady will discuss the economic impact of the oil and gas industry. Lunch begins at noon and is open to the public.

Chamber luncheon focuses on timber industry

Bernie Brown, the chief financial officer of Gates Construction Inc., will be the guest speaker at the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce luncheon today at noon at the Anchor River Inn. Brown will discuss the impact the timber industry has on the economy of the area. For more information, call 235-2600.

Monthly board meeting

The Board of Directors of the Kenai/Soldotna Women's Resource and Crisis Center will be holding its monthly board meeting today at 5:30 p.m. at the Women's Resource and Crisis Center.

Red Cross volunteer training

The American Red Cross will be training Red Cross volunteers to help in their communities in time of disaster. A class titled "Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance" will be taught Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kenai.

Alaska's statewide disaster specialist, Jack Cervantes, will teach this class. Cervantes has many years of experience in disaster response.

Participants must have completed prerequisite "Introduction to Disaster Services" before taking this course. To register or for more information, call 283-7672.

Blood drive in Anchor Point

Blood Bank of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Center will hold an Anchor Point Community Blood Drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Anchor Point Senior Center on Milo Fritz Road.

Blood Bank of Alaska reminds donors to drink lots of caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating. For more information, call 260-5672.

Monopoly tournament gearing up

The Peninsula Winter Games is hosting Alaska's only official Monopoly tournament Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Participants must be 21 or older to play. The first round will begin at 3 p.m. with a $500 grand prize up for grabs. Admission for adults is $20 plus two canned items for donation. Participants must be at the sports center no later than 2:15 p.m. for registration.

There will also be a children's tournament occurring simultaneously. For more information, call 283-3850.

Beer tasting, art/outdoors adventures auction

The Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club is hosting "A Taste of Art" beer tasting and art/outdoor auction Saturday at the Soldotna Senior Center.

Participants will be able to sample a variety of beers and enjoy a menu of appetizers while bidding in the silent auction or the not-so-silent Chinese auction.

Tickets are $25 per person and are available at River City Books or at the door.
