Soldotna's 'Volunteer of the Year' says award surprising, gratifying

Re: Deep gratitude -- enlivened by complete surprise

My selection as "Volunteer of the Year" was completely unsuspected. The selection was most gratifying and almost stunning.

I was told that my response was initially -- almost speechless! The lack of words did not continue for long, of course.

I hope my selection for such an honor will reemphasize to others that their communities will notice public service contributions.

My utmost thanks to the Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce and the greater Soldotna community (since the chamber's influence is not confined by geographic boundaries).

Yesterday I also had an opportunity to congratulate my counterpart Volunteer of the Year of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce -- Tim Navarre.

Again, on behalf of my family and myself, thank you so very much for the Volunteer of the Year award.

James E. Fisher
