First Thursday events for February set

The Kenai River Council on the Arts announces the following First Thursday art events in Kenai and Soldotna for the evening of Feb. 7:

The Quilts of Alaska show reception will be at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center in Kenai from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception is co-sponsored by the Kenai Chamber of Commerce;

A Dada party will be held at Art Works in Soldotna;

There will be an open mike with Lois Holleman at Mykel's in Soldotna, which will feature visual artist Suuqiina all month

Cambodian travel stories, slides and music at River City Books in Soldotna;

Jewelry maker Loraine Larsen will be at Claudette's in Soldotna;

Irish musicians Johnny B. Connolly and Aidan Brennan will perform at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center at 7:30 p.m.;

All events are occurring after hours. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 262-1777 or 283-1991.

Jazzmania returns

KBBI AM 890 presents "Jazzmania -- An Evening of America's Music," a fund-raiser for public radio, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight Feb. 16 at Alice's Champagne Palace in Homer. Performers include Matt Yaki and friends, the Karen Strid Quartet, featuring vocalist Brenda Vulgamore, the Jazzmanian Devils, the Tom Klinker Trio with JulieAnn Smith and Jim Buncak, and the John Walsh Trio.

The evening will include a New Orleans-style feast and a top 10 auction that includes a trip for two to Hawaii. Tickets are available at the door. The price for KBBI and KDLL members is $18 per person and the price for nonmembers is $24 per person.

Pratt Museum seeking volunteers

The Pratt Museum is looking for volunteers interested in the history, natural history and arts of Kachemak Bay and the southern Kenai Peninsula to work in a variety of museum departments. Anyone interested in education, public information, retail, museum collections or general office tasks is encouraged to contact the museum for more information about volunteer opportunities this spring and summer.
