Williams to speak at North Peninsula chamber

Kenai Mayor John Williams will be the guest speaker at the North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce luncheon at noon today at the North Kenai Baptist Church. For more information, call 283-8095.

Food bank to hold 'non-marathon'

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold its seventh annual "Non-Run Marathon to Fight Hunger" Friday through Sunday in the Soldotna Sports Center lobby from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Participants can stop by the center to register and drop off donations. For more information, contact the food bank at 262-3111.

Bagley to speak to council

The North Peninsula Community Council will hold its next regular meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dale Bagley will discuss the borough's summer cleanup program.

Art guild to hold reception

The Peninsula Art Guild will hold a reception for original artwork by Mark Anderson from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Fine Arts Center. The exhibit will he shown through the month of February. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 283-7040.

Shaffer to discuss new book

Artist and naturalist Boyd Shaffer of Kenai Peninsula College will speak at the Kenai Historical Society meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kenai Community Library. Shaffer will discuss how his book, "Flora of South Central Alaska," was produced and show proofs of a new book he has written on edible mushrooms. The meeting is open to the public.

Snowmachine safety course planned

The Kenai Peninsula SAFE KIDS coalition will hold its third annual children's snowmachine safety course Feb. 9 at Soldotna Middle School. The course is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. This course is free and open to children ages 5 to 15. Children aged 5 to 9 can come anytime from 9 a.m. until noon, while children age 10 to 14 can come anytime from 1 until 4 p.m. For more information, call 262-8195 ext. 280.
