Snow day: Winter Games delight community
The sky was clear and blue, the temperature hanging right at freezing; it was a beautiful winter day for being outdoors, and many were there as part of celebrating the 34th annual Peninsula Winter Games on Saturday.

Tourism industry optimistic for 2010
ANCHORAGE -- Visitor industry officials, still reeling from an unusually sparse tourist season in 2009, aren't smiling broadly yet, but there's an air of optimism sparked by a forecast from the U.S. Travel Association's marketing outlook forum.

Former Sterling resident Bunnie Giaccarini died peacefully with her sister by her side on Wednesday, Jan.20, 2010, in Stockton, Calif., of heart failure. She was 71.

While Friday's warm, wet weather may have made things a little slick, Saturday proved to be a gorgeous day here on the Kenai Peninsula. We hope everyone took advantage of the opportunity to get outside and enjoy some part of the Peninsula Winter Games.

Dough Girl strikes again
Since I started this crazy bit of ranting column, I've dis-clothesed some of the more ratty colorful attire my girlfriends and I lounge about the house in. I have spoke candidly regarding the poopies intestinal disruptions and the dire consequences of a product aptly titled, "Go Lightly."

On patrol
1st Lt. Kyle Bushon of Soldotna is shown while on foot patrol in Karbala, Iraq. Bushon is a platoon leader in the 2-69 Combined Arms Battalion out of Ft. Benning, Ga. He has 16 soldiers under his command and is responsible for escorting high level U.S. State Department officials on provincial reconstruction missions, joint U.S. and Iraqi Army combat missions, and combat logistics patrols.

Delta Kappa Gamma is an international women's educational society.
