Wasilla boys pull away from Homer late

The Wasilla boys basketball team pulled away from Homer in the fourth quarter for a 61-39, Northern Lights Conference victory on Saturday in Homer.

Homer trailed 30-28 at halftime and 44-37 after the third quarter. Cody Pfeifer had 19 points for the Warriors, while Connor Devine added 11. For Homer, Jonathan Jester pumped in 16.

Wasilla girls 67, Homer 10

The visiting Warriors grabbed a 24-0 lead after the first quarter en route to a NLC victory on Saturday. Celeste Colegrove had 14 points for the Warriors, while Carlee Naczi added 13. Alecia Stafford had four to pace Homer.

Cordova girls 41, Nikiski 36

The Wolverines notched a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday in Cordova. Savannah Griffel paced the Bulldogs with 17 points.

On Saturday, the Wolverines rolled to a 40-23 victory.

Cordova boys 61, Nikiski 43

The Wolverines took a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday in Cordova. Lucas Herrin paced Nikiski with 17 points, while Brando Wik added 15.

On Saturday, Cordova posted a 75-46 victory.

Seldovia girls 43, CIA 37

Cook Inlet Academy's girls lost their first Peninsula Conference game to Seldovia on Friday. CIA is now 5-1 in the conference and 12-3 overall.

After a tied first quarter, Seldovia gained a three-point advantage by halftime. Like the first half, the second half was close. The Sea Otters scored 18 second-half points to the Eagles' 15.

Freshman Sarah Geagel paced Seldovia with 13 points. Sarah O'Leary followed with 12 and Katrina Hecks chipped in 10.

Amie Smithwick had a team-high 13 points for CIA. Tiana McGahan followed with 11.

CIA shot 8-of-18 from the line. Seldovia went 4-of-9.

Nikolaevsk boys 49, Whittier 39

Nikolaevsk's boys put up 17 second-quarter points, giving them a 12-point lead at the half. That lead proved too big for Whittier to overcome.

Christopher Kalugin paced the Warriors with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Eight players tallied points for Nikolaevsk.

Alex Phillips and Justin Lipscomb each had 13 for the Eagles.

Whittier scored 25 second-half points to Nikolaevsk's 23.
