'Souper Bowl' day of caring today

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank invites the community to participate in the nationwide Souper Bowl of caring today.

Central peninsula churches will have a "soup pot" available for interested members to make a donation to the food bank. For more information, call Linda Swarner 262-3111.

Historical society to meet

The Kenai Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. today downstairs in the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant. Willa Fulton will give a presentation about the role the airline terminal played in Kenai at a time when telephones and medical services were in short supply.

Mass choir festival planned

Kenai Central High School will host the the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Mass Choir Festival at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium. Each school will perform its own selections, followed by the mass choir under the direction of Dr. Scott Anderson from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Mo.

This year there will be a fee for the concert to help schools cover travel expenses. Fees are $3 per adult, $2 per student and senior citizens or $10 for an immediate family pass. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information, call 283-7524.

SoHi parents of juniors to meet

The Soldotna High School parents of juniors will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 in the school library. The meeting will be to discuss plans for the after-prom party. All parents of juniors are encouraged to attend.

Drivers safety course offered

AARP is offering a drivers safety class from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 10 and 11 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. Cost is $10 for materials. Seniors may be eligible for a reduction on automobile insurance. For more information, call the senior center at 262-2322.

Master gardeners to discuss water gardens

Kearlee Ray Wright will be the featured presenter at the Central Peninsula Master Gardeners winter lecture at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. His topic will be water gardens. Wright has 15 years of experience with water gardens. For more information, call 262-5824.

Nikiski talent show seeking entrants

Nikiski Middle-Senior High School is seeking entrants for its 2004 Nikiski Talent Show on March 6. All ages and talents are encouraged to participate. SoHi selling discount cards

Soldotna High School, in cooperation with 82 area businesses, is selling discount "Star Bucks" cards to raise funds for its athletic department.

The cards will offer modest discounts at area stores. Discounts for apparel, beauty and hair care, car care, crafts, hobbies, flowers, candy, foods and home improvements are included. Two hundred fifty cards are available for purchase. The cost is $25 each. For more information, call 262-7411.
