Bake sale generated aid for tsunami victims in Asia

Posted: Tuesday, February 01, 2005

I am writing this letter today to thank everyone who helped to make the garage/bake sale for the tsunami victims on Jan. 15 a great success. I would like to thank Winona Rich and Joann Earsley for their hard work and dedication to round up donations and baked goods, as well as put forth their time and efforts to set-up, run, and tear down the sale. I would also like to thank Sears Elementary and Kaleidoscope Charter for the use of the gymnasium as well as the wonderful staff that also donated items for the sale. I also would like to send out a huge thank you to The Peninsula Clarion and KSRM Radio for the publicity they gave us, as well as the community members who donated items.

It was amazing to see just how much the members of our community came together to help total strangers recover in the aftermath of such a tragic event. It is times like these that make me proud to call the Kenai Peninsula my home. To live amongst such generous and caring people is both rare and a blessing. With the help of everyone mentioned, we were able to raise $711.50 for the American Red Cross to send to Asia for the welfare of the victims. For all the selfless people trying to help with whatever means possible, may God bless you.

Barbara Shipps, Kenai
