Nikiski mentors deserve thanks for hard work with young people

Posted: Tuesday, February 01, 2005

I want to offer a hardy thank you to the five Aspirations mentors working at Nikiski Middle/Senior High School. These inspiring mentors, Amanda Feagin, Judene Van Cleave, Pam Clark, Bob Harrison and Marian Nickelson have been coming to the school weekly since early November to meet with their students. I appreciate their dedication, support and commitment to the students and wish them a very happy Mentors Day, Jan. 25!

January was National Mentoring Month, so if you have had an inspiring mentor sometime in your life, be sure and thank that person.

Sterling group's donations go to benefit school library

On behalf of the staff and student body of Sterling Elementary, I would like to publicly thank the Sterling Homemakers for their generous donation to the Sterling Elementary library. They have donated $600 this school year to buy new books for the library. The money was spent on new fiction books, new poetry books for forensics and a new set of books about space that will be coming soon. Thank you so much to all the members of the Sterling Homemakers for their thoughtful donation. The kids love the new books!
