Kasilof

Posted: Tuesday, February 01, 2005

Greetings from Kasilof.

Welcome to February. It can only stay 28 days this year and for those who are counting. There's only 47 more days until spring officially begins.

Calling all Kasilof gardeners: In anticipation of sunny days, pick up a notebook and join other peninsula gardening enthusiasts for the Central Peninsula Master Gardeners Conference on Feb. 11 and 12 at Kenai Peninsula College.

A wide variety of speakers and their topics as well as time for questions and answers, plus a host of vendors are expected to make this year's conference one you don't want to miss.

For further information, contact the college.

Kasilof women and girls are invited to the Tsalteshi Trails She Can Ski 5-kilometer classic and skate race Sunday. Festive attire is allowed and encouraged. All proceeds will benefit the LeeShore Center, formerly the Women's Resource and Crisis Center, and Tsalteshi Trails Association. Registration is Saturday at Kaladi Brothers.

For more information, call 283-6122, ext. 31, or 283-9113, 283-9202.

These Kasilof students want to fill your evening with culture, showcasing art and gospel in one neat package. Join Merrick Jackinsky, son of Gary and Kathy Jackinsky; Becky Kilfoyle, daughter of Cosette and Thomas James Kilfoyle Jr.; and Kelsey Shields, daughter of Patrick and Lea Shields, as they star in Skyview High School's production of "Godspell," a musical based on the gospel of St. Matthew.

The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Feb. 10, 11 and 12 at the Soldotna High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $8 for adults. Thanks to drama director Teri Zopf-Schoessler for the news.

Congratulations from Colleen Lahndt to her husband, Laine Lahndt, on the achievement of his master guide license.

Laine started out 26 years ago working for another Kasilof master, George Pollard. Congratulations, Laine.

The Kasilof Public Library is hosting a Scholastic book fair Monday through Feb. 11. Check us out from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Friday.

For more information, call 252-1120 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

A get well wish to my daughter, Catherine. She underwent tonsilectomy-adenoidectomy surgery Monday. It was tough on me, too.

This week's birthday wishes go to Lana Chesley, Riley Kruse, Larry Meyer and Dallas Burford. And happy anniversary to Al and Leann Brunner.

Until next week, slow down and watch for moose.
