A disabled plane sits stranded on the ice of Tern Lake at the junction of the Seward and Sterling highways on Saturday afternoon. Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Megan Peters said the plane's landing gear was disabled, but that while troopers were aware of the situation, they were not called to respond. Peters said she did not have the pilot's name. According to the Federal Aviation Administration's online registry, the plane is registered to a Bruce E. Jaffa of Moose Pass. Calls placed by the Clarion to a number listed under that name were not answered on Sunday.
