Man Tasered at mall

Posted: Tuesday, February 01, 2011

Soldotna police used a Taser to subdue a mentally unstable man at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna Monday morning.

Soldotna police Sgt. Duane Kant said the man, identified as a 46-year-old Anchorage resident, was acting aggressively toward the police officers who responded to the complaints.

Police received the complaints about the man about 9:40 a.m. Monday, including one from a clerk at one of the mall's stores.

"We went over there to do a welfare check on him. He was physically aggressive, he was taken into custody and taken to the hospital," he said.

No criminal charges will be filed against the man, Kant said.

"Aggressiveness of the male was mental instability rather than criminal behavior," he said. "It's an unfortunate situation but I think it was resolved appropriately."
