Nikiski Pool's second set of winter swim lessons run Feb. 22 to March 10. Beginners meet at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., Tiny Tots meet at 2 p.m. and Intermediates meet at 4 p.m. Sign-ups start Feb. 14 at 4 p.m. at Nikiski Pool. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge hosts snowshoe walks and ski treks this week. All activities are free, but please pre-register with Michelle Ostrowski at 260-2839. Snowshoes are provided for the snowshoe walks, but bring your own equipment for the ski treks.
Snowshoers and skiers both meet at noon on Wednesday.
The Boys and Girls Club is accepting registrations for indoor soccer youth ages 4 years to 5th grade. The child must be 4 by Feb. 4. The season runs from March 21 to May 7. Cost is $60, and the child must be a 2011 member. Membership cost is $10 for kindergarten and under, $75 for 1st to 5th grades. The Kenai River Brown Bears hockey team will don special edition pink jerseys as they do battle with in-state rival, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, on Feb. 4 and 5. The pink game-worn jerseys will be auctioned during intermissions, with the proceeds going to benefit the Central Peninsula Health Foundation and local cancer patients on the Kenai Peninsula. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Central Peninsula Garden Club hosts a seminar on high tunnels and the USDA cost-share program on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on K-Beach Road, near the Bridge Access intersection. The Kenai masters swim team swims from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kenai Central High School pool. The group is open to swimmers over the age of 18.
