ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Gov. Tony Knowles has appointed an Eagle River woman as the newest member of the state board of education and early development.

Diane Jacqueline Heard will replace state Sen. Bettye Davis, who resigned to run for state office last year.

For the last five years, Heard served as executive director of the Alaska Women's Resource Center in Anchorage. Heard also spent six years at KSKA public radio, working first as the station's business manager and then as general manager.

Heard also has been a member of the YWCA board of directors, treasurer of the Anchorage Rotary and president of the Substance Abuse Directors Association of Alaska.
