Flood aid deadline today

Anyone in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, Kodiak Island Borough and Chignik Bay affected by severe winter storms and flooding has until today to apply for federal disaster assistance. For more information or to register, call the Federal Emergency Management Agency at (800) 621-3362 or (800) 462-7585 for speech- and hearing-impaired persons.

Homer Winter Carnival plans under way

All businesses and organizations interested in having an event listed on the Homer Winter Carnival events calender must contact the Homer Chamber of Commerce by today. Event information can be faxed to the chamber at (907) 235-8766 or called in by phone at (907) 235-7740. Organizations are asked to provide a brief description of the event, the date, time and contact information.

The Homer Winter Carnival will be Feb. 14 to 16, and the theme is freedom. The Winter Carnival Parade will begin at noon Feb. 15 and will commence at Homer High School and proceed down Pioneer Avenue. Prizes will be offered for parade participants. There is no deadline to register to participate in the parade.

NPCC to meet tonight

The North Peninsula Community Council will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. For more information, call 776-3257.

Pratt Museum reopens

The Pratt Museum will reopen at noon today after a month of closure for annual maintenance and repairs.

Soldotna chamber meets Tuesday

Paul Gray of Exploring Alaska will give a presentation titled, "Running with the Dogs," at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce's weekly meeting at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House in Soldotna. Entrepreneurship workshop slated

The Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Center will host a workshop titled, "Opening the Doors to Entrepreneurship -- A Business Planning Model," from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Red Diamond Center in Suite 16. The cost is $15. For more information or to register, call Debbie at 262-7497.

EDD plans second timber meeting

The Community and Economic Development District will sponsor its second timber industry meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the CARTS building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The meeting is designed to promote jobs and economic development for the Kenai Peninsula with the help of borough Mayor Dale Bagley, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the EDD and other agencies. Kenai chamber to discuss future work force
