Area students named to deans' lists
Shaun C. Williams of Soldotna was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Valley City State University in Valley City, N.D. To be named to the dean's list, students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 while carrying 12 credit hours of classes.
Chelsea A. Fritz was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at The Art Institute of Colorado in Denver, where she is studying photography and pursuing a career in photojournalism. Fritz is a former Nikiski Middle-Senior High School student and the daughter of longtime peninsula residents Kim Schaeffer and Don Fritz.
A number of Kenai Peninsula students were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. They include: Nicholas Glen Szymoniak of Homer, colleges of Engineering and Letters and Science; Jayson M. BeDunnah of Kenai, College of Engineering; Erin Marie Nightingale of Nikiski, College of Letters and Sciences; and Sarah Ann Todd of Soldotna, College of Letters and Sciences. To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.3 on 14 or more graded credits.
Several area students were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. They include; Joy Epley and Jami Epley of Anchor Point; Andrew Peters of Homer; and Jamianne Campbell and Andrew Smith of Soldotna. To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 on at least 12 graded credits.
Jessica L. Foster of Soldotna, was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. Foster is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Foster of Soldotna and a Soldotna High School graduate. She is a senior studying mathematics at Harding. To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.65 on 12 or more graded credit hours.
Jared Robertson of Soldotna was named to the honor roll for the fall semester at Montana Tech at the University of Montana in Butte, Mont. To be named to the honor roll, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.25 on 12 or more credits.
Soldotna student interns at DA office
Carrie Collins of Soldotna is among 120 Wells College students participating in the college's January internship program. Collins is serving as an intern with the district attorney's office in Kenai. She is the daughter of Noel Collins of Soldotna and a member of the 2006 class at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y.
Kenai youth offered college scholarship
Zachary Hicks of Kenai has been accepted to Augsburg College in Minneapolis for the 2003-04 school year and has been offered a $6,500 Regents Scholarship from the school. Hicks is the son of Atchison and Kelly Hicks of Kenai, is a senior at Kenai Central High School, where he plays hockey, soccer and baseball.
Augsburg College is a private liberal arts college associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and serves about 3,000 students.
Ninilchik woman completes basic training
Air Force Airman Anna J. Klapak has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During her six weeks of training, Klapak studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies, performed drill and ceremony marches and received instruction in physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and human relations.
She is the daughter of Joe Klapak of Ninilchik and a 2002 graduate of Ninilchik High School.
