French bread pizza with roasted garlic sauce and basil chiffonade

French bread baguette, cut into 8 diagonal pieces

Store-bought pizza sauce and a French baguette serve as the convenient base for "homemade" pizza, with fresh basil chiffonade. To make basil chiffonade, roll a fresh basil leaf into a tight cylinder, then cut into thin strips.

Olive oil

Roasted garlic pizza sauce (recipe follows)

1 cup grated mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil chiffonade

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Brush tops of bread with olive oil, then place on a baking pan. Toast bread in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove bread from oven and spread a small amount of the pizza sauce on top of the bread, from end to end. Cover pizza sauce with some of the cheese, then top with a few strips of basil.

Bake in lower third of oven, for 10 to 12 minutes, or until cheese is melted, being careful not to let basil strips overbrown.

Remove from oven. Garnish with additional basil, if desired. Serve with additional pizza sauce, for dipping.

Makes 2 to 4 servings.
