ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Football fans in south Anchorage hoping to tune in to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl last Sunday were blindsided by a local raven.
Chugach Electric officials say they have determined that one of the big birds is to blame for the power outage that blacked out more than 18,000 customers just before the opening kickoff.
The utility says a raven touched a power line and electrical equipment and triggered power failures at four substations. It took Chugach Electric about two hours to restore power.
The Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Giants 34-7. The Anchorage raven did not survive the outage.
