Nikiski boys top ACS in District 3/3A play

The Nikiski High School boys basketball team edged Anchorage Christian Schools 52-51 in a District 3/3A game Saturday in Anchorage.

Chris Roofe led the Nikiski effort with 18 points while David Holloway struck for 16 points.

Adam Lewis scored 17 points for the Lions.

The Bulldogs rebounded from a 30-23 deficit at the half, pulling to within five points (39-34) by the end of the third quarter.

The Nikiski girls broke a 15-15 halftime stalemate with a 27-8 run in the second half of a District 3/3A game in Anchorage.

Sally Glaze netted 17 points for the Bulldogs while Karen Rabung scored 16, 12 of those in the second half.

Sarah McLeod struck for 23 points as the Eagles edged the Knights in a District 2/2A game.

The Eagles trailed by five, 16-11, after the first quarter, but had made up the deficit and taken a 25-22 lead by the half. McLeod scored 10 points during the run.

Sherah Packa led the Knights with 14 points.

Corey Boone scored 18 points while Neal Kuipers netted 16 in a losing effort for the Mariners.

Homer's Sara Brooks took game-high scoring honors with 19 points, while Erica Putnam paced Chugiak with 17 points and Krystal Seward added 15 points for the Mustangs.

The host Lions outlasted the Seahawks in a Friday battle of two of the top teams in District 3/3A.

Corinne Berlen netted 19 points to help ACS improved its record to 5-0 in the conference and 9-4 overall.

Erin Carr had 17 points and Carri Fisher added 10 for Seward, which dropped to 3-2 in the league and 6-5 overall.
