Mrs. Cramer's class celebrated Penguin Day with many fun and educational black and white activities.

Students in Mr. Knudsen and Mr. Vedders' classes have been observing and recording data for 112 days for their coho salmon incubation project. Students harvested the eggs from Bear Creek last fall, and the eggs now are transforming to alevin, the next stage of the salmon life cycle. When the alevin turn into free swimming fry, they will be released into a land-locked lake in accordance with Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations.

The winner of this year's school spelling bee is Alicia O'Brien. The runner-up is Lincoln Wensley. Alicia will compete in the state bee in April.

February is "Love of Reading Month." Family Reading Night will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Spring portraits will be taken Feb. 11. All students' pictures will be taken and prepayment is not required. Preschoolers will be photographed from noon to 1 p.m.

The Student of the Month lunch will be at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday.
